Terms and Conditions

Last updated 1 November 2026

These terms are a contract between you and Checkout (“we”, “us”) and govern your use of the Checkout website and mobile apps (the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to them. Please read them together with our Privacy Policy.

1. What the Service is

Checkout is a marketplace. People who need something checked in person (“Posters”) publish a task describing what, where and when. Other users (“Freelancers”) make offers to carry it out. The Poster chooses a Freelancer, the Freelancer does the visit and submits a report, and the agreed fee is released from the Poster’s wallet.

We provide the platform, the wallet and the tools to communicate. We are not a party to the agreement between a Poster and a Freelancer, we do not employ Freelancers, and we do not carry out visits or inspections ourselves.

2. Your account

  • You must be at least 18 and able to enter into a binding contract.
  • You must give accurate details and keep them up to date. One person, one account.
  • You are responsible for everything done through your account. Keep your password private and tell us straight away if you think it has been compromised.
  • We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, is used fraudulently or puts other users at risk.

3. Posting a task

  • Describe the task honestly and completely, including the address, time, checklist and fee you will pay.
  • You must have the right to arrange the visit, for example an appointment with the agent or seller, and to share any listing or contact details you include.
  • You fund the fee, plus our platform fee, into your wallet when you post. That amount is held until the task completes, is cancelled, or expires.
  • Once you choose an offer, the Freelancer sees the full address and your checklist. Treat them with the same courtesy you would expect in person.
  • Reports reflect what the Freelancer observed on the day. They are not a professional survey, valuation, mechanical inspection or legal advice, and you should not treat them as a substitute for one when making a significant purchase.

4. Taking on a task

  • Only make an offer if you can genuinely attend at the stated time and place. Your offer price is the fee you will receive before our withholding.
  • Once chosen, attend as agreed, follow the Poster’s checklist, take clear photos, and submit your report promptly after the visit.
  • Be honest and accurate. Do not stage, edit or misrepresent photos or answers.
  • Behave lawfully and respectfully at every property, vehicle or venue. You are a visitor there, not an agent of the seller or of us.
  • Do not take a task outside the platform to avoid fees, and do not share a Poster’s address or contact details with anyone else.
  • You act as an independent contractor. You are responsible for your own tax, insurance and travel.

5. Payments, fees and wallets

  • Card payments are processed by Stripe. By topping up you also agree to Stripe’s terms.
  • Posters pay the Freelancer’s fee plus a platform fee shown at checkout. Freelancers receive the fee less a withholding shown before they offer. Both rates are fixed for a task at the time it is posted.
  • The fee is released to the Freelancer’s wallet when their report is submitted. If you dispute a report, contact us within 48 hours of submission and we will review it.
  • If a task is cancelled before a Freelancer is chosen, or expires with no offer chosen, the held amount is returned to the Poster’s wallet.
  • Wallet balances are not interest-bearing and are not a bank deposit. Freelancers may request a withdrawal of their available balance, which we pay out by bank transfer after review.
  • We may delay or refuse a payout where we suspect fraud, a chargeback, or a breach of these terms.

6. Cancellations and no-shows

  • A Poster may cancel a task at any time before an offer is chosen at no cost.
  • After an offer is chosen, each side should tell the other as early as possible if they cannot go ahead. Repeated late cancellations or no-shows may lead to account suspension.
  • If a Freelancer does not attend and no report is submitted, the held amount is returned to the Poster.
  • If a Freelancer attends but the visit cannot go ahead for reasons outside their control, such as the seller not turning up, contact us and we will decide on a fair outcome.

7. Your content

You keep ownership of the text, photos and files you upload. You give us a worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display and transmit that content to the extent needed to run the Service, including showing it to the other party to a task. You promise your content is lawful, is yours to share, and does not infringe anyone else’s rights or privacy.

8. Acceptable use

You must not:

  • Use the Service for anything illegal, deceptive or harmful, or to harass, threaten or discriminate against anyone.
  • Post tasks that require trespass, access to someone’s home without permission, surveillance of a person, or anything unsafe.
  • Upload malware, scrape the Service, probe its security, or interfere with other users’ accounts or data.
  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity, qualifications or rating.

9. Our responsibility to you

We will provide the Service with reasonable care and skill. However, because we do not carry out visits or write reports, we are not responsible for the accuracy of a report, the conduct of a Poster or Freelancer, or any decision you make based on a report. Any purchase, tenancy or other agreement you enter into is at your own risk.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. Otherwise, our total liability to you for any claim arising from the Service is limited to the platform fees you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or loss of profit, data or opportunity.

10. Availability and changes

We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the Service, and may update these terms from time to time. We will post the new version here and update the date above. If a change is significant we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the new terms.

11. Closing your account

You can close your account at any time by emailing support@pre-loved.app. Any tasks in progress must be completed or cancelled first, and we will pay out any available wallet balance after review. Sections 7, 9 and 12 continue to apply after your account is closed.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that consumers resident elsewhere may rely on the mandatory protections and courts of their own country.
